Jay Mueller

Born in Louisiana, Jay attended the Northwestern State University of Louisiana and also studied at the University of Houston. A serious bassist, Jay is on demand for gigs on tuba, and electric and upright bass. He is a charter member of the small circle of bass players that pioneered the “Four Beat Swing” style of tuba playing.

After moving to L.A. and studying with Morty Corb and Bob Magnusson, Jay worked with the Disneyland Band, the Bill Holman and Tom Kubis big bands, The Composers big band, and the San Bernardino Civic Opera. This led to numerous studio dates, including jingles for British Petroleum and work on the hit television show “Wings.”

A move to Orlando, Florida, proved to be a smart one. Jay performed at Circus World, Walt Disney World, and toured with the Ringling Bros. Circus Band. Orlando also opened the door to engagements with Bob Crosby and the Bobcats and many jazz appearances, as well as guest appearances with the Florida Symphony Orchestra. He has performed for many Broadway shows, including CATS, A Chorus Line, and The Phantom of the Opera.

Jay is currently a Staff Musician at Walt Disney World, and is much in demand on all of his brass instruments. He is very active in all styles of music performance and spends a large portion of the year touring, playing jazz festivals, and recording with many top groups including Bill Allred’s Classic Jazz Band.
